Money

Click on the attachments at the bottom of the page to teach your child about what coins and notes we use.

Further ideas:

  • Order coins from largest to smallest in size. Then do the same for value. Is there a correlation between size and value? Is there a correlation between value and colour (e.g. the 'brown' coins are worth less than the 'silver' coins which are worth less than the 'gold' coins.
  • This interactive activity asks pupils to spot the coins hidden within each setting. https://natwest.mymoneysense.com/challenge/spot-the-coins-uk/
  • Set up a shop in the home using items around the house and ask the child to pay for it by selecting the correct coins.
  • This challenge could be extended by asking them to own the shop and be in charge of selecting the correct change for the items you buy.
  • Children could think of three examples of items under £10 that they might want to buy. Ask them to research the price of each item and how much change they would receive from a £10 note. They could use catalogues, brochures, magazines and the Internet for their research.
